Mrs. DuPage's students are at it again! Today, they are investigating the diversification of "animalcules," the microscopic organisms found in pond water—and testing how light exposure impacts the diversity of life within those aquatic ecosystems. A Dutch scientist, Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, first discovered these tiny microscopic organisms back in 1674 using a handcrafted microscope, coining the term "animalcules" (meaning "little animals") to describe what we now know as microorganisms!
