Congratulations to Josie Hughes, our March Student of the Month at Rockridge High School!
A senior, Josie has balanced two years of work at Pizza & Subs with four years of service on the Student Council. Her leadership and academic excellence are reflected in her two-year membership in the National Honor Society. On the court and the track, she has been a steady presence for the Rockets, competing in volleyball for four years and track for two. One unique highlight of Josie's high school career was her trip to Pigeon Key. Outside of her busy school schedule, Josie enjoys reading, baking, and building Lego sets. Her passion for science will take her to Iowa State University this fall, where she plans to major in Chemistry. We are incredibly proud of all Josie has accomplished and wish her the very best as she transitions from a Rocket to a Cyclone!
Notes from our staff:
Josie is one of the most compassionate, hard working, reliable and dedicated students I've had in class. She is a rockstar in Calculus and is so deserving of this award! Congrats Josie! Your future is bright and I know for a fact you're going to do amazing things. -Mrs. DeKeyrel
In addition to being an excellent student and athlete, Josie is very dedicated in all that she does, but more importantly is a very kind-hearted person who goes out of her way for her friends and classmates. She continuously displays Rocket Spirit and Pride. I am very grateful to have the opportunity to teach her in my class and wish her all the best in her bright future! -Mr. Stroud
Josie was an incredible student to have in class! I had the pleasure of having her in Advanced English 3 and in Speech 101 last year. She is incredibly hard working and is one of the most caring students I have ever worked with. Josie is more than deserving of being student of the month, congrats to her!! -Mrs. Harrison
Josie is a valued member of the National Honor Society who takes great pride in maintaining the greatly utilized Rocket Closet. Josie is a visible figure there every week packing the food bags for families within our community. She is an excellent student who always has a kind and caring statement for her fellow student while showing everyone equal respect. She is devoted to earning great grades which is evident by her placement on the Honor Roll consistently. She was a four-year athlete of the Rockridge Volleyball program and just finished up her final season here. When she has free time (which is seldom), Josie can be found working at Pizza & Subs in Rock Island. Currently, Josie participates on the Rockridge Girls' Track team in the field events. She also volunteers at the Rock Island County Animal Shelter with QC PAWS. -Mrs. Neece
As the Student Council advisor, I’ve had the chance to get to know Josie, and I am proud to see her recognized as the Student of the Month. Josie is a Senior Spokesperson, which is a key leadership role for our team. Josie is what I would call a "quiet leader." While she is soft-spoken, her impact is bigger than she knows. She has awesome ideas, and when she expresses them, the rest of the group really listens. She has worked incredibly hard each year to help pull off the food drive, Homecoming week and more to ensure everything runs smoothly. What I appreciate most about Josie is her heart for others. She is incredibly kind and thoughtful, and she often steps up to help those she feels are being treated unfairly or are struggling. She has the wonderful ability to let others lead and support them in their efforts, even though she is a fantastic leader herself. While she is a bit quiet, those of us lucky enough to be close to her know she has a great sense of humor. She will be greatly missed at Rockridge next year, but I know she will go on to do great things. - Mrs. Reed
Josie was in my Advanced Chemistry class and attended the Florida Keys trip. Josie is exceptionally talented in math and science and will be able to do anything she sets her mind to. I have always been impressed by Josie's ability to think for herself often below the surface of what is there! A great choice for student of the month. -Mrs. Nerud
