Congratulations Ms. Griffith for being honored as the Rock Island County Regional Office of Education November Employee of the Month at Illinois City Elementary. Ms. Griffith is a special education teacher in the building, and she works daily to provide her students with the care and time they need to grow. Whether she is pushing into other classrooms or working one-on-one or with small groups in her own classroom, she builds relationships to foster success and then celebrates with students when goals are accomplished!

The second graders at Illinois City celebrated all their learning on the War of 1812 with a fun culminating activity. They had to create a foil boat (to be like "Old Ironsides") and see how many marbles (cannon balls) it would take to sink it.

Are you working for an employer that values community volunteerism? Is community volunteerism part of your employment evaluation process? Do you live or work in the Edgington, Illinois City, Buffalo Prairie, or Muscatine area? Illinois City Elementary is currently seeking adults to volunteer for its “Community Friend Program”. The main objective of the program is to help selected ICE students learn to foster a positive relationship with an adult that is new to them, with this effort helping to inspire confidence in themselves and their worlds. Adult volunteers must be willing to complete a background check and adhere to the program's safety compliance guidelines, and participation requires visiting with a student twice a month during the school day for 20-30 minutes throughout the remainder of the 25-26 school year beginning in November. This is the second year of our “Community Friend Program”, and we would like to expand to 10-15 students this school year. For more information or to complete an expression of interest form, please contact Mr. Bizarri at 309-793-8090 or jbizarri@rr300.org
