The Advanced English 3 Classes had the incredible opportunity to listen and discuss with Sgt. Don Neece about how to catch a serial killer and to learn more about crime scene investigations. The Advanced Class has been reading "Devil in the White City" which recounts the first U.S. serial killer, H. H. Holmes. Thank you Sgt. Don Neece for all of your information and letting us learn from you!

Students in Advanced Zoology dissected a shark. They found a baby shark in the male shark's stomach. So much for paternal instincts in sharks!

Mr. Wade had a fetal pig left over from his Anatomy and Physiology class, so students in Biology got a chance to dissect a pig. Thank you, Mr. Wade, for your donation! The students were intrigued.

Rockridge High School is pleased to announce that Neva Graves has been selected by the faculty & staff as the Student of the Month for May, 2025. Ms. Graves is a senior at Rockridge High School and is the daughter of Megaen Graves of Andalusia and Sam & Daphne Graves of Illinois City. Neva reports that her favorite class this year is Sociology with Mrs. Neece. She is an honor student who was recognized last fall as an Illinois State Scholar. She participates on the Girls’ Golf Team and is a member of the Football Stats Team. She is active as a member of the Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, WYSE, and Plant Club. In her spare time, she enjoys golfing with her family, reading, coloring, and taking care of her animals, which include dogs, cats, and cows. She attends Calvary Church in Muscatine, IA. Neva’s teachers had the following comments in support of her selection as the Student of the Month: • Mrs. Brandee Neece shared, “Neva Graves is a wonderful student, but she's an even better human. Neva is a pleasure to have in the classroom because she is very organized by studying extensively for assessments and never missing a deadline for homework, but more importantly is that she has a compassionate heart and truly cares about the people around her. While not one to bring attention to herself in the classroom, Neva is a private person without a sense of entitlement. She has come a long way since the timid girl who sat in my Middle Ages History class way back when she was a freshman.” • Ms. Shelby Hatchel said, “While I had Neva in English 101 last semester, she was a fantastic student! She always showed a strong work ethic and was constantly helping her peers in positive ways! Congrats to Neva on being May student of the month!” • Mrs. Angela DeKeyrel added, “Congratulations to Neva! She always comes into Calculus with a smile and a positive attitude. Neva is a dedicated student and a hard worker. She has a high level of understanding in mathematics and I know she will do great things!” • Mrs. Heidi Nerud stated, “Neva took my Chemistry and Advanced Botany and Zoology classes. She is quiet but an academic weapon for sure. One thing that struck me was her natural ability to solve problems in her science classes. In addition, she is always respectful, kind and willing to ask questions!” • Mr. O’Neill offered, “Neva Graves is an excellent student! I had her in 2nd hour Spanish 3 last year. She is kind, courteous, hardworking and thoughtful. And she was always excited to talk about the golf season when asked.” • Ms. Patricia Graves said, “Neva works hard in class and is always willing to go above and beyond. She wants to learn and understands how her education in school will apply to her career and life outside of school. She is kind and willing to help others. She stands up for those around her. Her positive attitude and strong morals definitely show through!” Neva reports that she plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa in the fall to major in Mechanical Engineering.
