While studying Egypt the 6th grade students made bookmarks out of papyrus paper and wrote their names in hieroglyphics. The students also got to make Death Masks. Thank you to the Rockridge Foundation for buying the supplies for these hand on learning experiences!

While learning about Mesopotamia, the 6th grade student wrote their initials in cuneiform on clay tablets and made their own project to share with the class. Some projects included building a ziggurat, making a game board, making an alphabet book or an invention from Mesopotamia.

A huge THANK YOU to the ROCKRIDGE FOUNDATION! Through a grant, they helped provide 7th grade students with a field trip to Finance Park on December 9. During this trip, students were given a "persona" that they then had to create a budget for. This include paying utility bills, student loans, grocery shopping, investing and saving, among many other things. Most students left the simulation with a greater appreciation for their parents, and they found out just how expensive kids are! Thank you also to the parents who volunteered. This could not have been done without you.

Congratulations to Mr. Curtis Fischer-Oelschlaeger for being honored today as one of the RIROE Employees of the Month. Mr. O does an amazing job with all of our choir activities. Last week alone he presented our Veterans' Day Assembly and the Fall Show Choir Concert while also assisting with preparations for our Fall Play and the upcoming Holiday Concerts. Curtis also serves as the President of the Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA), which means he devotes extra time to leading music educators and conducting district festivals across the state. He is a tireless advocate for the Arts in our school district!
